OBM vs. VA… Which One does your Business Need?

What an Online Business Manager Really Does, How It Differs from a Virtual Assistant, and Why Team Support May be What You Need

As the owner of a growing business, you may find yourself overwhelmed managing operations, clients, team communication, and day-to-day tasks. This is the perfect time to begin exploring support options like the Crafted to Scale team.

How do you know if you need an Online Business Manager (OBM) and/or a Virtual Assistant (VA)?

Finding the right solution for your business can feel daunting. You might be unclear on how an OBM and VA differ, and unsure what is best for you and your business.

What is an OBM?

Your systems can often feel disorganized or non-existent, projects are falling behind, and you have big ideas for growth. But not enough capacity to make them happen.

You need someone leading operations, managing workflows, keeping projects on track, and creating structure behind the scenes. Reaching this stage in business is a sign of growth and success. It also means you need support that goes beyond basic administration. This is where the strength of an Online Business Manager will help you simplify and grow your business.

As an Accredited Online Business Manager, Elaine works with high-performing service-based entrepreneurs who are at (or over) capacity and need a strategic partner to bring order to overwhelm, improve operations, and create space for sustainable growth.

What is a VA?

A Virtual Assistant (VA) provides day-to-day support that helps keep your business running smoothly. This can include inbox and calendar management, customer communication, scheduling, administrative support, and other operational tasks.

While an OBM focuses on strategy, systems, and management, a VA focuses on execution and smooth ongoing support. Together, they create a strong operational foundation that allows business owners to focus more on growth and less on constantly reacting to daily demands.

You may sometimes hear the term Executive Assistant (EA) as well, and wonder where they fit into the mix. Think of an EA as the bridge between execution and strategy. While a VA handles a breadth of administrative tasks that are essential for the company to run, an Executive Assistant offers high-level and specialized support, often as the trusted right hand of a company leader. Teams rely on both for different reasons, and we will assess your needs to make the recommendations that are best for you.
